| Inspired by the marvellous gothic buildings that surround us in England I have been sculpting architectural features since 1995, mainly life size arched window frames into which we fit mirrors. We cast the frames in hard reinforced plaster finished as antique limestone for interiors or cast in a reconstituted stone for outdoor use which we leave natural for the elements to do its work. Our outdoor versions can 'extend' the garden or create the illusion of a magical opening through to 'another' garden.
The frames provide authentic historical detail for any property whether it be the rustic "reclamation" look for the country retreat, or a feeling of shabby chic for the city apartment. Different affects can be achieved, like a gothic façade, by putting three identical arches together on the wall, or simply create the illusion of a window at the end of a dark corridor.
All of our frames display many of the forms and decorative motifs of the gothic revival period in particular frames fashioned in the shape of ogee-arched gothic windows with varying amounts of tracery. Gothic style was predominant throughout the Middle Ages and revived in the 19th Century. The Victorians revived the style in the mid 19 Century as a reaction against the symmetry of classical style, it featured, at first mainly in Churches and public buildings but began to influence domestic interiors by the 1860's.
